ARTIST BIO
Andres Alejandro Aceves /// ANDY
Contemporary artist born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. Currently based in South Padre Island as an artist in residency at the Art Buisness Incubator South Padre Isalnd (ABISPI). My current work focuses on creating functional pottery and figurative sculptures. I’ve been working with ceramics for almost 6 years now. I was first introduced to the material when I began my art studies at the University of Texas at Brownsville and I am a recent graduate from The University of Texas at the Rio Grande Valley, with a Bachelors in Studio Arts, where I also worked as a ceramic studio assistant.
I’m still learning and growing as an artist and the style of my work goes through many phases as I try out different forms, textures and glaze combinations to find what works for me aesthetically. There are many steps in the process of making pottery where I like to find ways to experiment and alter my pieces. Experimenting is what keeps me enticed in ceramics, there's always something else I want to try. To me there is no other art form like it. It's the perfect creative outlet for me. Pottery can also be very relaxing and therapeutic in a way, it's easy for me to clear my mind and lose track of time when I'm working on the wheel.
